چکیده

INTRODUCTION On account of the multifaceted structural damage induced by prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE), MR image registration problems have been a roadblock in the detailed analysis of images from this population. The recently introduced DARTEL (diffeomorphic anatomical registration through exponentiated lie algebra) algorithm [1] is thought to improve inter-subject functional image registration, but has not been previously applied to the PAE population. The present study examines the applicability of DARTEL to functional image registration in the PAE population using images derived from a vibrotactile stimulation task with contralateral hand response.

Reducing inter-subject anatomical variation: Effect of normalization method on sensitivity of functional magnetic resonance imaging data analysis in auditory cortex and the superior temporal region

Conventional group analysis of functional MRI (fMRI) data usually involves spatial alignment of anatomy across participants by registering every brain image to an anatomical reference image. Due to the high degree of inter-subject anatomical variability, a low-resolution average anatomical model is typically used as the target template, and/or smoothing kernels are applied to the fMRI data to i...

Understanding the Effects of Prenatal Alcohol Exposure Using Three Dimensional Facial Imaging

One of the (at least theoretically) most easily detectable features of fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) and fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) is a distinct pattern of facial characteristics. However, in many children prenatally exposed to alcohol, these characteristics are expressed only subtly, making it difficult to correctly identify children with these disorders. To date, several studies ...

Thèse dirigée par Chantal Delon-Martin

Progress in our understanding of brain functions relies on our capability to explore the human cortical surface at a fine scale (typically 1.5 mm isotropic at 3T). For this purpose, high accuracy is required for all processing steps from image acquisition to data analysis. For group studies, the high intersubject variability of the human cortices hampers their precise registration. Based on the...

The impact of lesion in-painting and registration methods on voxel-based morphometry in detecting regional cerebral gray matter atrophy in multiple sclerosis.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE VBM has been widely used to study GM atrophy in MS. MS lesions lead to segmentation and registration errors that may affect the reliability of VBM results. Improved segmentation and registration have been demonstrated by WM LI before segmentation. DARTEL appears to improve registration versus the USM. Our aim was to compare the performance of VBM-DARTEL versus VBM-USM and...

Comparison of the adaptive functioning of children prenatally exposed to alcohol to a nonexposed clinical sample.

BACKGROUND Several studies show impairments in the social and adaptive behaviors of children prenatally exposed to alcohol. However, there remains limited consensus on whether the alcohol exposure directly affects social functioning or whether its effect is mediated by deficits in IQ. In addition, no studies have investigated whether deficits in social functioning are significantly more pronoun...
